Let's start with the number everyone wants: in normal traffic, North Bend to downtown Bellevue is roughly 25 miles and about 20 minutes on I-90, and downtown Seattle is about 30 miles and 30 minutes. From Snoqualmie, plan on roughly 30 to 40 minutes to Bellevue and 40 to 50 minutes to Seattle under normal conditions. That is a commute thousands of Eastside workers drive every day, and it is the reason the Valley keeps growing.
The route matters more than the miles
Snoqualmie sits on SR 202, which connects to I-90 at the Snoqualmie Ridge interchange. North Bend is directly on I-90, which is why it wins the commute race: no two-lane highway to cross before the freeway. Fall City, Carnation, and Duvall trade that convenience for rural space, with 35-to-45-minute drives to Bellevue and a reliance on SR 203 and Woodinville-Duvall Road.
Rush hour is real, but not Seattle-bad
The honest caveat: peak direction, peak hour adds time. The I-90 corridor backs up toward Bellevue in the morning and toward the Valley in the evening, and SR 202 can crawl on school mornings. Regular commuters tell Paul to budget 15 to 25 extra minutes at peak times, and many Valley households solve the problem with hybrid schedules, early departures, or one remote-work day.
Transit and the winter wildcard
Metro bus service connects the Valley to the Eastside and Seattle, and the park-and-ride lots in Snoqualmie and North Bend fill early. The bigger wildcard is winter: when snow hits Snoqualmie Pass or the Valley floor, I-90 and SR 202 slow down, and rural roads in Fall City and Duvall need chains and patience. Valley residents keep a winter kit in the car and a flexible plan, and they still would not trade the space.
"The commute question is really a lifestyle question. Twenty minutes to Bellevue and a mountain in your backyard is a trade a lot of families make happily."
